Misun here again today. I decided after last week’s post that I would try and update here fortnightly at the very least, so… Today I thought I would do up a little mori-specific taobao guide!
I know when Dalfe first introduced me to mori kei, I spent a good few hours just looking through the tag on tumblr, googling the style, and honestly, it can be intimidating at first, because you look at pictures of people in the clothing, and it seems like there’s so many layers and pieces to a polished co-ord. That was back in May, from memory, and now I thankfully realise that mori kei is one of the most relaxed styles you can wear. There aren’t really rules with mori, and there aren’t specific brands, or shops that you have to buy from. You can make it yourself if you like! Personally, all my favourite mori clothing has been bought from taobao, so today I’ll make a little list of my favourite stores, as well as some assorted stores I've come across, and give you a bit of a guide on how to go about ordering.
I should also note that taobao is entirely in Chinese, I use Google Chrome as my browser, so it translates and makes browsing a lot easier.
First and foremost; Forest Girl Fans ~
I just love this store so much. In the past, I’ve done two big orders from them, and both have been great. They are currently stocking a lot of Winter wear, but they update with new items daily which is awesome. The pieces are good quality, made for layering, and they use a lot of really pretty lace and trim. This store is especially good for those who are just starting out wearing mori, as everything is super reasonably priced, and you can literally buy the three pieces the model is wearing and you’ve got yourself an outfit. Also, I’ve bought a couple of pairs of boots from this store as well, and both were lovely and good quality. Just know that if you’re planning to buy shoes from taobao, it’s a very good idea to size up, as most sizes do run small.
Favourite piece purchased: (This is really hard okay! I’ve bought so much from this store lol!) Here! Even though this is very simple, you can wear these under everything and anything and they look so cute. Perfect for layering.
Next is; DearLi ~
I think if there was anything that could be considered close to ‘brand’ in mori, it would be this store. DearLi is probably the best quality mori store on taobao, but it’s also the most expensive! I spoilt myself recently and bought a couple of dresses from there, and Dalfe has bought a scarf, a fur collar and a few other pieces from there. They are all totally gorgeous. They’ve recently begun stocking these gorgeous book style satchels, with all these pretty painted details and ajshasjhhjaks. If you have some money to burn, go and check this store out. It doesn’t help that their photography is totally beautiful. I could literally just post links to someday dream pieces from there haha.
Favourite piece purchased: Here! (in red, and got in medium just to be safe, it fits well, but could even have gone with small).
Right, next; w11m !
Stumbled across this store randomly one night, and went a bit nuts, mostly because they were having an end of season lucky bag special. I will be honest, it is not the best quality store, but a couple of my favourite items were from there, so… It’s more expensive that some other stores, like Forest Girl Fans too. They quite often don’t update their numbers either, so something might say it has 20 items in stock, when they’re actually sold out. While I wouldn’t say flat out ‘don’t buy from here’, just know that it can be a bit of a risk doing so. Things don’t always look much like the pictures either!
Favourite piece purchased: Here! I wear this a lot. It's cute over jeans, or a pretty skirt, or just on its own as a dress!
Next; DayDreaming Handmade
Oh, gosh, this store. This is an accessory store, which stocks a lot of really adorable handmade felt jewellery, but! Any details about what I bought are secret for now, because a certain co-owner of this blog is getting some stuff for Christmas. But I can say that their pieces are just adorable, well made, and if you want just some cute accessories to go with a mori co-ord, be that necklaces, rings, brooches, any of that kind of thing, this is the best store for it.
Favourite piece purchased: Well, that’s a secret for now. Huhuhu.
Cute things, cute photography~ I bought an end of season lucky bag from these guys, and it was really funny :'D It included cute pink mittens, a lovely knitted scarf, AND THIS WEIRD HAT LOL. It was red and curly and strange, with little horns. Will post a picture at some point. But their products are quality! I'm not able to post a link to the cute scarf I got, it's no longer on their site.
So, that’s actually all the stores I’ve bought from personally, but there are several more I’ve come across which I hope to buy from as well, so I shall list them as well. And I’m going to apologise in advance for the dodgy shop names, because google translates strangely sometimes!
Well priced, cute things. I’ve got my eye on some leggings from here, but will certainly buy from here in the future! They have lots of cute scarfs and socks and stuff like that.
These guys have lots of really cute knitwear in at the moment, some quite dolly kei, really cute! Some looks quite gyaru, or even mori gyaru as well.
Lots of cute winter wear, cute shorts and sweaters especially here. Things look really cute and quality! Casually adding to next taobao order list…
Ah, this store, so pretty. While I’ve never ordered from here, my friend Zimiel has! (her haul post here, along with some Forest Girl Fan pieces, her fc2 cosplay blog here!). This store can go on next order list too :D
Another cute accessories shop, mainly jewellery.
These guys seem to stock a lot of similar things to w11m, but still worth a look!
While the store layout is similar to DearLi, I don’t think these guys are actually affiliated. But they stock lots of pretty accessories, mostly jewellery.
This store has the loveliest photography! Lots of lovely looking pieces too.
A shoe store! But as mentioned, use caution. The sizes can be a little tricky.
Lots of really sweet looking clothes in this store.
Hey! Forest Girl
Cute things, lots of which I have seen in other stores, but anyway.
And that’s my bookmarks exhausted! As mentioned with all the above stores, I have not purchased from any, so cannot vouch for the quality of any.
Now, for ordering! Taobao stores only ship within China, so in order to buy from them, you need to go through an agent, who orders the items for you, then ships them onto you, and of course there is an agent fee, and additional shipping costs. You’re usually looking at between $40-$90 AUD for shipping costs, though this depends heavily on how much you buy.
For previous orders I have used Taobao Now and have found their service really friendly, and their shipping is very quick! And all payments can be done through paypal which is great.
All you need to do is sign up on their website, then get to ordering. It took a long time for me to put in my first taobao order on my own because I didn’t really get it, but it’s super easy. Don’t be afraid! Buy cute things! Will try and update with 'taobao finds' posts every so often.
If you have any questions, please feel free to comment, or drop me an ask at either of my tumblr accounts (aegiyongi or 2ndsouth).
Anyway, this has been Misun, thanks for reading, happy shopping, and see you next time!
